Frequently Asked Questions

When Do You Fish For Salmon

The Columiba river and its tributaries have a number of different salmon runs throughout the year.

We fish for Spring Chinook Salmon starting in April of each year and into June.

We fish for Fall Chinook Salmon starting in August of each year and can catch them into December.

We fish for Coho Salmon in the Fall of the year.

How do you fish for Salmon?

We fish for Salmon using many different techniques depending on the time of year, location of where we are fishing, and what recent techniques have been working the best.  Some of these techniques are:

Trolling

Bobber Fishing

Mooching with Jigs

What part of the Columbia do you fish?

When the Salmon start arriving from the Pacific ocean they enter the Columbia river at a place known as Bouy 10.

A lot of people fish Bouy 10 becuase the fish are right out of the ocean and are very bright and fresh.

We then will follow the Salmon upstream all the way up to the Hood River area.   We will fish from them in many different places along their journey.

How many Salmon can I keep?

Each year the biologists will set not only the dates of when we can fish for Salmon but the limit of salmon that each fishermen can keep daily.

Along with the limits the biologists will also determine if fishermen can retain wild fish or just hatchery fish.

As a rule of thumb you can generally keep 1-2 Salmon per day.
